Uncertain Future: A Recap of Recent News

BioWare's lips regarding Mass Effect 4 are hermetically sealed, so much so that the original voice of an iconic character from the original trilogy knows nothing of his fate in the sequel.

Jennifer Hale, the original voice of the female version of Shepard, answered some questions regarding Mass Effect 4 during an interview with Dexerto. These unfortunately do not advance us much and could even disappoint early fans. To explain the situation, we are going to address SPOILERS major ones from the end of the third opus. So avoid letting your eyes wander over this item from one of the Citadel's shops, just in case.

Mass Effect 4 maintains its galactic mystery

For many, Commander Shepard is an inseparable element of the Mass Effect license. This major character was the figurehead of BioWare's superb original trilogy. Since we are talking about a Mass Effect 4, fans expect to see it return to the forefront after a lackluster Andromeda. In the first official teaser of the game, the fact that the famous N7 badge was dug up from the snowdrifts by Liara T'Soni could leave us fantasizing about such an almost prophetic return.

For now, however, it would only be a sweet dream. Jennifer Hale, original voice of “FemShep,” seems to be as much in the dark as fans about this. “ I don't think I'm against BioWare, because I honestly don't know anything about it. I would love to come back, I would without hesitation for a second. But I haven't heard anything yet. I know that Mark Meer [la voix originale du pendant masculin de Shepard, ndlr] would be as excited as I am to come back “. But all this depends on which ending of the third opus BioWare chose to establish as canon to write the story of Mass Effect 4. We are going to discuss precisely SPOILERS major ones regarding Mass Effect 3 in the following part. You have been warned.

Find Shepard

In Mass Effect 3, players can choose between five different endings. Without going into too much detail on the subject, four of them involve the death of Shepard. Three of them via sacrifice to stop or control the threat of the Reapers. The fourth leads to the extinction of all forms of life in the galaxy. The ending where Shepard manages to destroy the Reapers can, however, have a happy ending for him. For this, players must have a Military Strength greater than 7,000. In this case, we can see a scene where the Commander rises in the middle of the ruins of the Citadel.

In the Mass Effect 4 teaser above, we get to see a very organic Liara. It is therefore likely that BioWare chose as canon that Shepard either destroyed or controlled the Reapers and other machines. All machines? A priori no, since another image teasing the game let us dangle the return of the Geth, the machines created by the Quarians and which escaped their control. Shepard's place in Mass Effect 4 therefore still remains a mystery… like almost everything related to this long-awaited sequel. For now, BioWare is unfortunately very busy with Dragon Age 4. Let's hope that this title will be released soon and will live up to expectations. This will allow the studio to breathe, and therefore to fully concentrate on the continuation of its iconic video game space opera.
