The successful return of Mad Max

Among the many franchises from the 80s and 90s to have made a comeback in the 2010s, Mad Max is surely one of those that has come out the best. With Fury Road in 2015, George Miller, the historic director of the saga, proved that he still had things to tell with this universe which remains even today the essential reference of the post-apocalyptic. All this with an impressive and convincing production thanks to numerous sequences produced in real life rather than with special effects.

Nine years later, the 79-year-old director is back with a new episode which this time serves as a prequel to Fury Road and which focuses on the character of Furiosa. Played by Charlize Theron in the original film, Anya Taylor-Joy takes over for her younger version. While the feature film named after its main character is scheduled for May 22, George Miller is multiplying interviews to promote Furiosa. And on this occasion, we learn that he is already thinking about the future of the Mad Max universe.

A Mad Max 6 already in development?

Among the numerous interviews delivered by the Australian director, that of Entertainment Weekly is the one that has caught people's attention the most. During the interview, George Miller ends up talking about Mad Max's very short cameo in the filmwhich leads him to explain:

While preparing for Mad Max: Fury Road, we also wrote what happened to Max the year before that appears in this film. And when we get to the end of Furiosa, basically in terms of timeline, we had to see that Mad Max was lurking somewhere because we know what happened. The writers know what happened to Mad Max the year before, and we have a whole story about it, which I'd love to do one day if I get the chance.

If George Miller expresses his desire to tell what happened to Max before the events of Fury Road, the latter tells us that this project is not just a desire, but that it is concrete and even under development :

Well, we're certainly working on it. And like I said, we wrote it essentially as a novella, and now that we have the opportunity, we're going to put it into screenplay form, and we'll go from there.

We imagine that the transformation of this script into a real film will depend on the success of Furiosa in theaters, but in any case one thing is certain, it is that George Miller is not finished with the universe of Mad Max and that He still has things to tell.
