Knock at the Cabin

If you like suspense films and are not against a bit of fantasy elements to add a little turmoil to the storyline, you probably know director M. Night Shyamalan. Mainly known for its excellent Sixth Sensehe also directed the trilogy Unbreakable, Split And Glassdisturbing him Signs or the most recent Old. In 2023, he also hit hard with his film Knock at the Cabin, and it is the latter that you will be able to find on Netflix from May 1, 2024. As a reminder, this film behind closed doors tells the story of a couple and their daughter whose vacation in the forest will be interrupted by a group of four armed strangers, convinced that the apocalypse is imminent. In addition to the palpable tension that the film manages to maintain throughout its duration, Knock at the Cabin also stands out for its cast made up of real big names like Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Old) or Rupert Grint (Harry Potter). To find out, all you have to do is log in to Netflix from May 1st.

Barbaric

Even if you really like horror films, you may unfortunately have missed out on Barbaric. Originally released in cinemas in the United States in September 2022, we had to wait a good month and a half extra to be able to enjoy it in France. However, its impact was still limited since it was only released on Disney+ without going through the cinema box. A real waste given the superb reviews the film received upon its American release. Directed by Zach Cregger, Barbarian tells the story of a young woman on a trip to Detroit for a job interview. Not originally from this city, she therefore rents an apartment during her stay. However, by the time she arrives (late at night, obviously), she discovers that another man has also rented the same apartment and is already there. Against her own hunch, she decides to stay and spend the night. Of course, she will quickly discover that she should have trusted her instincts. Critics generally appreciated the film's intelligence as well as its humor and mastery of horror. In the casting, we find a duo of well-known faces composed of Georgina Campbell (Black Mirror) and Bill Skarsgård (John Wick: Chapter 4). If you want to discover Barbarian, you can do so from May 2 on Netflix.

Sonic the Movie

If there is one video game adaptation into a live action feature film whose success was not really predictable, it is good Sonic the Movie. When the design of the famous blue hedgehog was revealed, the result was indeed so strange that it quickly became the laughing stock of the internet. Fortunately, the studios quickly understood the message and worked hard to rework the appearance of the fastest hero of Green Hills, until finally offering a film which was able to conquer the hearts of fans of the SEGA mascot . As a reminder, this live action adaptation propels Sonic into our contemporary world. After hiding for ten years, he finally gets noticed because of an electrical outage that he caused by accident. Targeted by the government and by the famous Dr. Robotnik, he will be helped by the sheriff of Green Hills to escape his detractors. Among the undeniable qualities of the film, we especially note the legendary interpretation of Dr. Robotnik by the no less legendary Jim Carrey. If you like this actor and miss his remarkable facial expressions, know that you will be able to see him at work in Sonic the Movie starting May 15 on Netflix.

The Fabelmans

Among the most important directors of our generation, it is difficult not to mention Steven Spielberg. Known for creating absolutely iconic feature films like Jaws, AND The Extra-Terrestrialthe saga Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park or We have to save the soldier Ryan (to name just a few), the American filmmaker has never really stopped making films and is still very active today. After having brushed pop culture lovers in the direction of the hair with Ready Player One and musical comedy aficionados with West Side StorySteven Spielberg returned in 2022 with a much more personal proposal: The Fabelmans. Very inspired by his own life, this film tells the story of Samuel Fabelman and his family. Passionate about cinema, this shy young boy will quickly take refuge in creating his own films using his favorite camera. Sometimes encouraged by his parents, sometimes reminded of the harsh reality of life, he will have to succeed in convincing those around him that his films can be more than a simple hobby and that they can really help transmit emotions. If you haven't yet seen The Fabelmans, Steven Spielberg's film will be available on Netflix from May 22.

Atlas

If there's one thing that Netflix knows how to do well, it's attracting an extremely large audience thanks to its offerings combining several areas. This month, the SVOD platform intends to convince music fans to take an interest in science fiction cinema thanks to the film Atlas. Indeed, the main role of the latter will be played by none other than Jennifer Lopez, the international pop star. It must be said that she is far from making her first film since she had already distinguished herself in around forty feature films since the 1980s, including the recent Marry Me, The Mother or Shotgun Wedding. In Atlas, the one we nickname J.Lo plays a data analyst called Atlas Shepherd. Misanthropic and completely hostile to artificial intelligence, she will be sent on a mission to capture a rebel robot that she has already encountered before. With its enormous mechas and the explosions that we can already see in the trailer, the film looks promising and may well convince some spectators. To discover it on Netflix, however, you will have to wait until May 24.
