A great adventure… but not for everyone?

Voted Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023, Baldur's Gate III is one of the best RPGs ever made and Larian can be proud of the work accomplished. We will obviously redirect you to our full test to find out what we think in detail, but the adventure proposed by the studio has captivated the attention of millions of players: it is a critical success of course, but also a commercial success since more than fifteen million copies have been sold. Just that.

The problem is that this massive adventure visibly puts off some buyers. Not long agowe learned that only 5.2% of players on Steam had completed the game! So of course, there is the very long lifespan – not everyone necessarily has the time to spend so many hours there – while others have also been able to realize that the tone of the adventure or turn-based were not made for them. This is also the other side of the coin: some were able to buy the software after hearing good things about it, without really knowing what to expect.

Too extensive a tutorial?

So yes, there are those who don't finish the game, a fact that is actually much more common than you might think and which is not inherent to Baldur's Gate III. But there are also those who do not pass the tutorial: in this case, this obviously corresponds to almost 10% of Steam players, based on achievements unlocked by the community. Still a very important statistic.

What is this due to? An ultra-complete character editor, so complete that players get lost in it? A start to an adventure that ultimately does not appeal to newcomers and strangers to the world of Dungeons and Dragons? Too massive an installation size that puts players off, even though they bought the game? The theories are… multiple. And maybe you have yours.
