The latest leak that’s causing a divide among the fanbase

The generally well-informed Dusk Golem has released a “leak” concerning Resident Evil 9 which risks disappointing fans. But it would a priori be for a good cause.

Capcom is currently working on several games in its flagship survival horror franchise. The most obvious being Resident Evil 9. Three years after Village, this one is eagerly desired. According to Dusk Golem, fans' patience will be further tested. But this would a priori be to better leave room for another game in the franchise.

Resident Evil 9 is biding its time

The mystery surrounding Resident Evil 9, the sequel to Village released in 2021, remains unsolved. Everything we know about him so far only comes from rumors and other rumors. According to a recent leak, this new opus of Capcom's flagship survival horror franchise could draw some inspiration from Dragon's Dogma 2. It would indeed be a question of offering an open world approach to a genre usually confined to claustrophobic atmospheres. .

Such a major change could in any case join the latest “leak” on this subject. According to Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 9 has indeed been postponed in Capcom's production line. A priori expected in 2025, this new game could ultimately be released later than planned. The Japanese studio seems to need more time to give substance to its apparently very big ambitions. An announcement in June as part of Summer Game Fest therefore seems uncertain. But fans of the franchise apparently shouldn't be left on the sidelines.

Another Resident Evil game to fill the vacant slot?

Dusk Golem reports to us that the postponement of Resident Evil 9 would be an opportunity for Capcom to release another game from the license to help fans wait. After the excellent Resident Evil 4 Remake, a new similar title could soon be announced. Whether it is a remake of the 5th opus, the first or even Code Veronica, among many other possibilities, Umbrella Corporation has the matter covered for the moment.

Please note, however, that this is all just a rumor at the moment. It is therefore appropriate to take this information with a grain of salt. With June approaching, we should hear from Capcom anyway. Monster Hunter Wilds should indeed make a notable appearance during Summer Game Fest or a nearby event. Whether Resident Evil 9 or another upcoming game in Capcom's other major license will also be present, time will tell.
