Strength "Sandman"-Rearguard meets Sonic's rivals

Video game fans and geeks are in for a treat this week. One of two new releases in the current streaming week was actually not even planned in a big way – at least Prime Video did not run any advertising before the release of “Twisted Metal”, and the title was even missing from the streaming provider's regular monthly update. But now the series is here: Produced by Peacock, MCU star Anthony Mackie throws himself into the gasoline-soaked wasteland in the video game adaptation to fight with, among other things, nasty clowns in the “Borderlands” style. By the way: Season 2 of “Twisted Metal” is already ordered! https://youtu.be/NMUkT7KLqlc

Manga and anime fans who are already longing for the next banger after “One Piece” and “Yu Yu Hakusho” also have reason to be happy: With “City Hunter,” Netflix is setting the stage the eternal cult hit again, the live-action adaptation is by far the weirdest but also most successful film adaptation of the works of Tsukasa Hojo. You just have to like it!

Things get brutal, dark and weird on Prime Video too. Season 2 of “THEM”, subtitled “The Scare,” is set in 1990s Los Angeles, where a fanatical serial killer leaves behind a mountain of corpses. But with each new crime scene, it becomes clearer to the investigators that there is a dark force at work here that has long since discarded any form of humanity…

If you don't like it quite as weird and nerdy, you'll find what you're looking for at Disney+ this week. The fantastic melodrama “All of Us Strangers” with Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal finally starts here, which was unfortunately shown on the big screen far too briefly in this country. At the same time, Disney+ also launched Season 1 of “Tracker”. If you like crime series with a case-of-the-week setup AND a solid story, this is your next must-watch binge. In addition to main actor Justin Hartley, Jensen Ackles is also there!

Less surprising, but no less promising, the spin-off of “Sonic the Hedgehog” is coming to Paramount+ tomorrow. “Knuckles” is created as a mini-series and takes place between part 2 and the third part of the successful film series, which will be released in December. The iconic Echidna warrior from SEGA has to deal with a nasty former henchman of Robotnik, who has developed a new weapon using Knuckles' spikes.

Things are getting similarly geeky on Netflix this week. With Season 1 of “Dead Boy Detectives”, the red N brings a spin-off of the fantastic series revelation “Sandman” to the subscription, which is also based on the ideas and works of Neil Gaiman. The focus is on the eponymous investigators, who deal with paranormal criminal cases of all kinds. Fun fact: For the first time, the Dead Boy Detectives were not seen in “Sandman”, but in the strange DC series “Doom Patrol” – Neil Gaiman was also involved there. Crossover ready?
