Ghost of Tsushima: PSN chaos in Helldivers 2 provides single-player clarification

The PSN controversy surrounding Helldivers 2 is now also affecting other Sony titles for the PC. The makers of Ghost of Tsushima now felt compelled to clarify this.

It was THE excitement of the last few days: Helldivers 2 was supposed to receive an update that would also make it necessary to link to a PSN account when playing the PC version via Steam. The fans' criticism was so extensive that a real shitstorm including review bombing broke out and forced Sony to react. The obligation to link a PSN account is now not coming – but the whole controversy has now also had other effects on the Sony cosmos.

As is well known, the PC version of the action game Ghost of Tsushima will be released shortly – and the whole discussion surrounding Helldivers 2 is now causing uncertainty among PC gamers there too. This in turn has now ensured that the makers of Ghost of Tsushima have now even felt compelled to provide clarification via social media.

With regard to Ghost of Tsushima, a number of fans have now expressed concerns about a possible PSN usage obligation also via Steam and Epic Games Store when the game appears there in mid-May. As the makers now assure, it won't come to that.

According to Sucker Punch, the single-player component of Ghost of Tsushima can also be played without a linked PSN account – and as is well known, this is the focus of the action game. However, since Ghost of Tsushima on PC will be the first game on this platform to implement the PlayStation overlay directly in the game, a PSN account is still required for further functions.

Basically, you can use the PlayStation overlay to get trophies like on the PS5 or play the Legends online mode, which also enables cross-play with the PS4 and PS5. Due to these deeper connections, the game cannot do without the PlayStation Network and a corresponding account. But the fact remains: single player works without PSN! This should certainly be reassuring, especially for single players who are increasingly annoyed by issues such as an online requirement.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut will be released on PC on May 16, 2024.
