Sony has graffiti removed and states the reason

This week “Stellar Blade” is released exclusively for the PS5. However, graffiti remains in the game, at least one of which must be removed with a patch.

On Friday, April 26, 2024, “Stellar Blade” will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5. After the demo has already enjoyed some popularity, the recently released ones also show international critics ratings for an exciting action fireworks display.

However, Sony has now reported a small faux pas in the game that will be caused by the upcoming Day One Patch should be remedied. Because at least one graphic in the game can “unintentionally” be understood as a racist reference.

According to Sony, the inclusion of the phrase was not planned

The graphic in question involves two visual elements. Taken together, these can be combined into a sentence that can be read as a racist innuendo. In a statement to colleagues at IGN, Sony explained that the Developer Shift Up had no intention of placing offensive wording in the game.

“The placement of two graphics side by side in Stellar Blade resulted in unintentionally offensive language,” the statement said. “Shift Up had no intention of creating offensive graphics and will replace the graffiti with the Day One patch.”

Allusion could be particularly criticized in English-speaking countries

Part of this allusion is a graffiti of the word “Hard”. Another element is the “R”, which in “Stellar Blade” stands for Roxanne, one of the game's information brokers. Taken together, this could be read as “Hard R”, an allusion to the N-word, the use of which is often criticized, especially in the USA.

Racists often pronounce the word with a “hard R” at the end, which the graphic in “Stellar Blade” seems to unintentionally indicate.

The “Hard” graffiti graphics appear in several areas of the game. However, during a pre-release review process, it appears that it was only discovered once that it was placed next to an “R” store, thus forming the offensive phrase.
