In the last few days, the planned PSN requirement for “Helldivers 2” on Steam led to review bombing and a lot of criticism. In an official statement, Sony Interactive Entertainment has now admitted that the company will not pursue its plans regarding the PSN requirement after the backlash from the community.
After the successful launch on Steam, a small announcement meant that the developers of Arrowhead and the co-op shooter “Helldivers 2” were faced with massive headwinds in the last few days.
In detail, it is about the fact that linking to a PSN account on Steam, which was initially suspended due to technical problems, should soon become mandatory. “Helldivers fans. We've heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network accounts to be linked for new players and for current players starting May 30, will not continue.”
“We're still learning what's best for PC gamers. Your feedback was invaluable. “Thank you again for your continued support of Helldivers 2. We will keep you updated on our future plans,” continued Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The company left it open as to when “Helldivers 2” will return to sales on Steam in the numerous countries where PSN is not officially supported. It also remains to be seen whether the announced countermeasures will be enough to appease the community on Steam.
Most recently, the review bombing ensured that “Helldivers 2” even fell behind disappointments like “Redfall” in terms of user ratings.
