Riverdale creator is working on new live-action series for Netflix

“Scooby-Doo” and his friends should soon be flickering across our TV screens again. Netflix is ​​said to have secured the rights to a new live-action series on the popular brand, which will be produced by the “Riverdale” maker.

The adventures of the talking dog have been a delight since the late 1960s “Scooby Doo” and his friends, generations of fans worldwide. After various reboots over the years, we could soon see a new live-action series about the Mystery Inc. crew from the streaming provider Netflix. As both websites consistently report, Netflix is ​​said to be close to a deal with Warner Bros. Television to secure the rights to the show. Regarding the tone of the live-action show, one can of course only speculate at the moment, but based on Berlanti's previous TV series, we can expect a rather dark story with a mix of drama, comedy and some action. In recent years, Greg Berlanti has made a name for himself primarily with the DC Comics adaptations of the Arrowverse. As a producer, he accompanied, among others, the popular comic book films “Arrow”, “Legends of Tomorrow”, “Supergirl” and “The Flash”. He also worked on “Doom Patrol”, “Stargirl” and “Titans” for the short-lived streaming service DCU. He also oversaw drama series such as “Riverdale” and “You – You Will Love Me”.

In the case of the “Scooby-Doo” live-action series that is currently in the works, Berlanti will also be working behind the scenes as an executive producer. More precisely, he will do this through his own company Berlanti Productions. He receives support from his long-time colleagues and companions Sarah Schechter (“Superman & Lois”) and Leigh London Redman (“Dead Boy Detectives”). Both are also on board as executive producers.

The upcoming drama series will be produced by Midnight Radio (“Venom”). Josh Appelbaum (“Mission: Impossible – Phantom Protocol”), André Nemec (“Knightfall”), Jeff Pinkner (“Jumanji: The Next Level”) and Scott Rosenberg (“Cowboy Bebop”) are working on the Netflix show for the production company involved. Appelbaum and Rosenberg are also writing the script. Adrienne Erickson and Jonathan Gabay also serve as co-producers.

“Scooby-Doo” was created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears and first flickered across US TV screens in 1969 in the form of the animated series “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” Over the decades, a total of 14 more TV shows, various TV and cinema films as well as numerous direct-to-video spin-offs followed.
