Sony released firmware update 9.20 for the PlayStation 5 this April 25, 2024. This update seems primarily focused on bug fixes, potentially to resolve some minor issues users have encountered since firmware 9.00, released in March 2024.

Here are some key points from update 9.20:

– Improved messages and usability on some screens.

All this is the official side, but for what interests us the developer Zecoxao has already confirmed that a major error seems to have been corrected on firmware 9.20, moreover he adds that the IPL shows that the security revision is changed from 0xFFF to 0x3FFF. For those who don't follow the hack to their fingertips, the IPL (Initial Program Load), as its name suggests, is one of the first pieces of code loaded and executed by the machine. Especially on consoles like the PS5, this piece of code is generally very small and extremely secure. It is there to ensure that the machine correctly loads the kernel and performs initial security checks. In the past, flaws in console IPLs have been critical to gaining early console access for CFW.

Additionally it appears that a new bounty of $20,000 was delivered recently. In short, this firmware 9.20 also seems to correct an exploitable flaw, or at least correct one or more flaws, it is recommended that users who wish to jailbreak their console one day not to update.
