Prison Architect 2: Next postponement for the prison sequel

The planned release of the prison simulation sequel Prison Architect 2 is still not under a good star: today the next postponement of the release date became public.

If everything had gone according to plan, Prison Architect 2 would actually have been available since March. As is well known, nothing came of this and the developers initially postponed the release date to May 7, 2024. Unfortunately, that won't work either.

Today the development team confirmed that Prison Architect 2 will be released noticeably later. The new release date has now been announced as September 3rd, 2024, so we will have to wait almost four months longer.

The background to the postponement is stated: “We recently conducted some stability tests with our latest version of the game and discovered that unexpected problems were occurring too often, especially on configurations with low technical specifications. After identifying the problem, we started to “To improve Prison Architect 2's memory usage to mitigate the situation, overall the work was successful and we saw improvements on lower spec computers and consoles.”

However, the entire procedure required additional effort: “Unfortunately, this revision also brought with it some new technical challenges, as the number of crashes on other PC configurations increased significantly. We immediately started to fix these problems. However, we… “This took time in the final stages of development as we had to shift our resources from optimizing the game to fixing the crashes.”

Although there is generally a certified version of the game on all planned platforms that is ready for release, there is no plan to publish it. The new memory management system will significantly improve the gaming experience and the title will only be released when it is ready for it. Accordingly, the development team is committed to “the best possible sequel” and “doesn’t want to save money in the wrong places”.

The community apologized for the circumstances, but they would rather prefer a well-functioning game than an earlier release.

Prison Architect 2 will now be released on September 3, 2024 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
