Possible GTA 6 delay: According to Schreier, “excessive concern”

A few days ago, a report from Kotaku about “GTA 6” sparked concerns about a possible delay. According to Jason Schreier, however, the reactions to this were exaggerated.

Last December, developers Rockstar officially announced the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 with a trailer. Although there was no exact one Game release date mentioned, but the studio confidently stated the year 2025 as the release.

A few days ago, a report from colleagues at Kotaku shocked fans. Sources have announced that development has stalled and the release of “GTA 6” could be postponed to 2026. After Mike Straw from Insider Gaming reported on the topic, journalist Jason Schreier also commented.

Report caused publisher Take-Two's shares to plummet

In his latest article, Schreier reports that Kotaku's announcement of a possible postponement of “GTA 6” caused shares of Two Interactive Software Inc. to plunge 5.2 percent earlier this week. However, this would make no sense, said the journalist. There would still be so much time between now and the end of 2025 that even if production ran perfectly, no one could say with certainty that the game would actually be released in 21 months.

In reality, work on video games would always be behind and titles could be delayed at any time. Of course, there is also the possibility that “Grand Theft Auto 6” could be delayed. Also Red Dead Redemption 2 was originally announced for 2017 and was delayed twice before launching in October 2018.

The new “GTA” is coming out later than anyone at Rockstar, who began planning ten years ago, could have ever expected. The development of games is a chaotic, non-linear process that has to contend with technical and artistic challenges. Thousands of people would be working on the game and their tasks are all intertwined and interdependent.

However, there are currently no signs that anything significant has changed in the development of “GTA 6”. Last summer, Jason Schreier asked someone at Rockstar how things were going, and they replied, “Chaos.” This week, the journalist asked other employees at the company what they thought of the rumor mill and, according to his own statements, received mostly just a shrug of the shoulders. “Of course the development of the next Grand Theft Auto is delayed,” said Schreier. “It's always like that.”
