A live-action One Punch Man film!

Are live-action anime adaptations on the rise? So of course, it has not always been a success and there are still many who point the finger the Netflix film Death Note, the industrial disaster Dragon Ball Evolution or the very recent Knights of the Zodiac… to recite nobody else but them. Real traumas inscribed in popular culture in spite of themselves, a bit like a painful reminder of what we should not do.

And yet, not afraid for a penny, Netflix recently outbid with the live action series One Piece, ultimately rather well received and giving some hope to the public. We'll let you judge the ideal format – series or film? – but Sony Pictures has in any case made its choice with the plan to make a One Punch Man film. With real actors and real cameras, therefore.

In truth, we have been aware of the project for a while since it was made official four years ago. Today, the case is becoming a little more refined with new names to sink your teeth into.

Future KO?

For the moment, we know that this One Punch Man film will be directed by Justin Lin, director of a bunch of Fast & Furious (Tokyo Drift, FF 4, FF 5, FF 6 and FF 9). But the news of the day comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter, a famous American media outlet which declares loud and clear that the scenario would have been rewritten by new authors.

Instead of the duo Scott Rosenberg / Jeff Pinkner (Venom, Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle) which was announced, it is therefore that of Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell who will be behind the screenplay. A fact that has since been made official, with the latter screenwriter wasting no time in expressing her enthusiasm.

Scott Rosenberg has a solid pedigree, being the co-creator and screenwriter of Rick & Morty, having also signed the series Community. Heather Anne Campbell is not to be outdone, she who has a solid background in the field and having joined Rosenberg on the script for season 6 of Rick & Morty, to replace her other co-creator Justin Rolland.

No release window has yet been announced for this One Punch Man film. Who would you see to play Saitama?
