A titanic job

On the menu of this article, the fascinating story of Gronya, a passionate player whose dedication to saving the game's 56 DLC cards Dragon Quest VII: The Quest for the Remains of the World has captured the attention of the gaming community.

Faced with the prospect of the imminent closure of the Nintendo 3DS online servers which took place on April 9, Gronya took the admirable initiative of preserving this content, which would have been lost forever to new players.

Indeed, Dragon Quest 7 includes a total of 56 DLC maps, doomed to never again be able to be legally downloaded to a 3DS, but that's not all. These cards are deleted at the start of each new game, forcing a new download, which has become impossible since April 9, 2024. As a result, no player will be able to enjoy 100% of a new game. Armed with determination and passion for the Dragon Quest saga, she embarked on an epic mission, devoting over 300 hours to this monumental task.

Gronya also shared his story and his motivation in a video:

If anyone could do it, unfortunately it was me. At 4 a.m., I said to myself 'enough'. I grabbed my 3DS and started playing. It was supposed to be March 2 and we had until April 8 (…) Some people like alcohol, others like drugs and I liked Dragon Quest 7.

In order to obtain this famous save, the characters must progress while fighting as little as possible. To do this, the player must acquire an item obtained randomly which grants two experience points for each step taken. Gronya spent nine years to get his hands on it by turning his 3DS off and on again and again.

Preserving video game heritage

His commitment to the gaming community is palpable through every minute spent playing, despite the challenges and repetitiveness of the task. In order to create THE perfect save game, Gronya ensured that every detail was preserved, from the main characters at level 1 to the precise point in the story.

It was a great opportunity for me to have fun and get involved in the Dragon Quest community. I felt like I was giving a gift to the community of the game I've loved so much over the past 15 years.
