After careful consideration over the past year, Blizzard has made the decision not to organize its flagship event in 2024. The developer has still assured that the show will return in 2025.

BlizzCon 2024 canceled, despite its return last year!
In recent years, BlizzCon (the event where publisher Blizzard unveils all of its new features) has been rather rare, whereas between 2005 and 2020, it was not canceled once. However, in 2024, we will have to do without. Indeed, the meeting will not take place, Blizzard announced on April 25. The last editions (2020 and 2021) of this great mass were very disruptedparticularly because of the pandemic Covid-19. In 2022, no BlizzCon either due to scandals regarding the toxic work environment within the company. After 4 years of absence, the company was finally able to gather thousands of fans.
Yet Blizzard announced that this year, “after careful consideration”, the show will not be held. The developer only declares to have “a different approach”, without further details. This had a way of disappointing fans. However, one thing is certain, Blizzard will be “still excited to see BlizzCon return in the years to come.” This year that won't be the case, but over the next few months more information will be communicated on the year's launches. The games affected will surely be: World of Warcraft: The War Within and the first extension of Diablo IV.
A cancellation to announce a definitive withdrawal?
THE buyout of the company American by Microsoft can explain the cancellation of BlizzCon this year. Indeed, a few months after the takeover, the tech giant dismissed 1900 people at the developer and in its Xbox console subsidiary. Following this, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra announced his departure from management. What if the cancellation of BlizzCon was simply linked to an economic problem?
In its press release, the American company ensures that it will reveal more information during Gamescom 2024, which will be held from August 21 to 25. This year, fans will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Warcraft and will have the chance to celebrate it at “several on-site events”, affirms the company in its press release. These events will be an opportunity to find the friendly and festive spirit usually scheduled during BlizzCon.
