Pasqal appoints former Amazon and Google executive as chairman of its board

Pasqal, a French start-up specializing in quantum computing, announced changes to its internal organization on February 13. Thus, Wasiq Bokhari becomes chairman of the board of directors and Loïc Henriet co-CEO. It also intends to create separate hardware and software departments.

Opening up to the pharmaceutical, energy and financial markets

An MIT graduate, Wasiq Bokhari served as general manager of moonshot projects at Google from 2015 to 2017, before becoming GM strategic initiatives at Amazon. He joined Pasqal as an advisor in September 2023. His role will be to accelerate “global interest in the company's neutral atom technology, in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, energy and finance”according to the start-up.

Three new departments

The French gem also announced the appointment of Loïc Henriet, CTO since the end of 2021, as co-CEO. His mission will be to supervise the three new departments created within the company, namely Hardware, Software and Product. An organization which will allow, according to Loïc Henriet, “to guarantee the continuous integration of innovative solutions into the product offering, while increasing production capacity”.

Since its creation in 2019, Pasqal has obtained the support of many scientists, such as the Nobel Prize winner in physics Alain Aspect, who is one of the co-founders. In January 2023, it announced a fundraising of 100 million euros to accelerate its R&D and boost its international activities. For example, the young company announced on February 2 that it had entered into a partnership with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, in Daejeon (South Korea).
