HMD Global, the manufacturer behind today's Nokia phones, has partnered with Heineken and Bodega to introduce the Boring Phone. The name of the cell phone says it all.

What is the Boring Phone? This is a clamshell phone that completely dispenses with apps and advertises that it has almost no features.

  • The case is transparent, which allows a view of the (simple) hardware.
  • Visually, the cell phone is reminiscent of the Nokia 2660 Flip, which is also developed by HMD.
  • According to Heineken, the cell phone is particularly drop-resistant.
  • The cell phone classic “Snake” is preinstalled.
  • To end calls, the cell phone can be “dramatically” closed.
  • 4G capable
  • With 3.5mm headphone jack

Why release a boring phone? The cooperating companies want to create a cell phone that is not distracting and allows users to take a break from the digital world.

No apps? SMS regulates: Heineken states (perhaps with a touch of irony) that the functionality of the Boring Phone is no more limited than a smartphone. If you ever need directions or a restaurant review, you can simply ask friends via SMS.

Friends become pixels: The camera is also nice and “retro”. With a resolution of just 0.3 megapixels, you can almost count the pixels with your eyes. This is what advertises Heineken By the way, also yourself: »Take pics, see friends come out as pixels.«

More specs: Aside from the fact that the cell phone is simply supposed to be boring, it doesn't offer that much anymore.

  • The main screen on the inside has a diagonal of 2.8 inches.
  • When folded, a 1.77-inch display is revealed on the outside.
  • The battery life should be particularly long.

Price and availability: The Boring Phone was unveiled at Milan Design Week this week and is said to be limited to 5,000 units worldwide. A price has not yet been announced. From June onwards, those interested who can't get hold of one can make their own smartphone boring with a “Boring” app.
