No Rest for the Wicked: A comparison with Lord of the Rings

In addition to the early access launch on the PC, the developers at Moon Studios talked about their long-term plans for “No Rest for the Wicked”. According to CEO Thomas Mahler, the release of the full version is just the first step on a long journey.

After Moon Studios, based in Vienna, Austria, made a name for itself in recent years with the “Ori” series, the studio is currently working on the action role-playing game “No Rest for the Wicked”.

While players on the consoles still have to be patient, “No Rest for the Wicked” recently went into early access on the PC. In keeping with this, Thomas Mahler, the CEO of Moon Studios, said a few words about the development team's long-term plans.

Mahler drew a comparison with the “Lord of the Rings” series and said that the release of the full version would only be the first step in a long journey. In the best case scenario, “No Rest for the Wicked” should accompany us over a period of up to ten years.

Development team is pursuing concrete plans

“Guys, we’re not done with No Rest for the Wicked yet. There's so much we've already built that none of you know about, and we want to do it in a masterful way. This early access phase is actually just the beginning for us and we already have plans for what will happen after 1.0,” Mahler explained.

The CEO of Moon Studios continued: “No Rest for the Wicked is like our Lord of the Rings. And to use this analogy further: What we have done so far is similar to a test screening of the first bits. 1.0 will be our 'The Companions'. And as you all know, there’s still a lot to do after that.”

“To be clear, we will be working on No Rest for the Wicked for another five to ten years.”

A breath of fresh air in the action RPG genre

Finally, Mahler emphasized once again that Moon Studios' aim with “No Rest for the Wicked” is to bring a breath of fresh air to the action role-playing genre and to influence it positively. A special feature concerns the game world itself, which you can influence with your decisions and completed quests.

By supporting the residents in their projects, helping them rebuild the cities or completing certain missions, you can actively influence the further development of the respective areas and put your own stamp on them.

In addition, runes and loot play an important role in the world of “No Rest for the Wicked” and enable you to create individual characters and classes. We have further details on this topic here summarized for you.

The full version of the action role-playing game is expected to be released this year for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
