Nintendo removes content from nearly two-decade old Steam game in sudden attack

Switch manufacturer Nintendo is not a fan of mods or any other content that uses its intellectual property. Now the Japanese company is taking on a popular Steam game. As a result, countless content is deleted forever.

Nintendo has content deleted from the Steam Workshop

In Garry's Mod, players can get creative and perform crazy physics experiments using the Source engine. These are particularly central user-generated content, which can be found in the Steam Workshop. Video game giant Nintendo apparently doesn't agree with this at all.

Thanks to the great freedom, Steam players have started making their favorite characters from other games playable in Garry's Mod in the 18 years since release. Now, however, developer Facepunch Studios is announcing that all content related to Nintendomust be deleted from the workshop.

In a message on Steam, Facepunch Studios writes that not all content will disappear at once. Instead, it is an ongoing process as 20 years of uploads have to be searched. The fans could help by acting on their own initiative delete their Nintendo uploads and never upload it again (Source: Facepunch Studios).

Lots of Nintendo products and characters in the workshop

Facepunch Studios doesn't elaborate on this in the message, but it's safe to assume that Nintendo does too would have been prepared to file a lawsuit, the uploads should not be voluntarily deleted from the Steam Workshop. Switch emulators have also been brought to their knees in court. But the developer also shows understanding that Nintendo doesn't want to see its own content in someone else's game.

As of this writing, the Garry's Mod workshop is still full of Nintendo content. For example, you can download a model of a Nintendo Wii or even play directly as a link. The image of the Zelda hero with a machine gun in his hand is probably one of the reasons why user content is such a thorn in Nintendo's side (source: Steam Workshop).
