New Release: Disney+ Secures an Outstanding Movie for the Big Screen

The film was one of the big winners at the Oscars this year; “Poor Things” has been in cinemas in this country since mid-January. But now you can save your cinema ticket because the extraordinary film will land directly on Disney+ in just a few days.

Heard with a total of eleven nominations “Poor Things” by Giorgos Lanthimos among the hottest Oscar candidates. In the end, the film won four of the coveted statues. Emma Stone, among others, triumphed as best actress. But the production design, costumes and make-up as well as hairstyles were also worthy of an award for the Academy. Only “Oppenheimer” went home with even more honors in 2024.

Still playing in the cinema: Disney+ is now picking up “Poor Things” from March 20th, 2024

You can currently still see “Poor Things” in various cinemas nationwide, but you’ll soon be able to save your ticket. Already from March 20th The slightly different British feature film can be seen on Disney+. If you have a subscription, you don't pay anything extra. One of the big Oscar winners ends up in a streaming flat rate just a few weeks after its theatrical release (watch on Disney+).

The Oscars 2024 in summary:

With “Poor Things” viewers get a new and refreshing look at the well-known Frankenstein theme, a feminist variation, if you will. Victoria Blessington, who lives in Victorian London, drowns herself in it. As Bella, she is brought back to life by the eccentric doctor Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), but this is not the whole story.

Both Emma Stone (Bella) and Mark Ruffalo (best supporting actor) were nominated for Oscars for their outstanding acting. As already mentioned, Stone won, Ruffalo ultimately lost to Robert Downey Jr. for his role as Lewis Strauss in “Oppenheimer”.

A must for real cinephiles

With an IMDb rating of 8.1 points, “Poor Things” is one of every cinema lover’s must-sees. A verdict that the critics on Rotten Tomatoes would also agree with. Whole 92 percent of them thought the film was wonderful. It was still a clear majority of viewers at 79 percent.

If you want to enjoy such good entertainment, you no longer have to go to the cinema, although a film like this certainly belongs on the big screen. But “Poor Things” also cuts a fine figure at home on the couch. All you need is a Disney+ subscription.
