Medieval Survival Climbs to Top of Steam Charts, Causing Concern Among Players

You can already find many great survival games on Steam. Now a brand new game with a medieval setting has been released that is quickly climbing up the list of PC top sellers. However, the first reviews are not completely convinced by Bellwright.

New medieval game on Steam conquers the charts

A brand new one Survival game in the Middle Ages is taking Steam by storm. Players can't wait to create their own village and command armies. Bellwright launched in early access on April 23rd and is already at the top of the top seller list. Even the long-running Counter-Strike 2 and the Steam Deck have to give way (source: Steam top seller).

In Bellwright you start as an outcast and rebel leader. You have to liberate villages, expand them further and fend off enemy attacks. For battles, the game relies on a large selection of weapons and a direction-based combat system such as in the medieval hit Mount & Blade. Fortunately, you don't have to take on tasks that are important for survival such as hunting, felling trees and building houses alone. Over time, new recruits join your cause and follow your orders in battle.

Bellwright is currently still in an early access phase, which should last around three years. For the full release are new regions, different biomes, a complete story and also features like horses and sieges planned.

Not all players are convinced of the Steam hit

Despite the top position in the Steam charts, not all players are enthusiastic about Bellwright. Currently only 68 percent of user reviews would recommend the game. The Opinions sometimes differ greatly here. While many players enjoy the combat and survival gameplay, others don't like it at all. Many of the technical problems can still be resolved before the full release.

However, players also fear that this might not happen at all. Bellwright is developed by developer Donkey Crew and distributed by publisher Snail Games. The last collaboration between the two companies is called Last Oasis – a survival MMO that is still in early access. The reviews, which are also balanced, show that some fans believe the game was ruined and abandoned by the developers (source: Steam).

Now there is a fear that Bellwright suffers a similar fate and the developers move on to the next game. The future will show whether this will happen.
