Helldivers 2: “Don’t want to end up like Fortnite”

As the developers at Arrowhead confirmed when asked, the studio is definitely open to possible crossovers in the world of “Helldivers 2”. According to the studio, however, only content that makes sense in terms of the lore will be taken into account.

With the co-op shooter “Helldivers 2”, Arrowhead delivered one of the biggest surprise hits of 2024, which is very popular on both the PC and the PS5.

Since in the recent past basically every major live service title has been provided with crossovers, the community is naturally also asking itself the question of corresponding content for “Helldivers 2”. The Arrowhead developers were recently asked about possible crossovers on the official Discord channel.

As community manager Twinbeard confirmed when asked by a user, Arrowhead is quite open to the whole thing. However, the studio makes it a point to respect the history and lore of “Helldivers 2.”

Fortnite as a deterrent example?

Or to put it another way: We shouldn't expect crossovers like “Monster Hunter x Sonic” or “Fortnite x Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Instead, when it comes to possible crossovers, the developers at Arrowhead are concerned with offering content that fits the lore or game world of “Helldivers 2” and makes sense.

Otherwise, according to the community manager, Arrowhead runs the risk of “ending up like Fortnite.” We remember: In the past, the successful battle royal shooter from Epic Games repeatedly had collaborations that, according to the community, did not fit the style of the game and caused criticism.

The community manager added that adding melee weapons or finding items from a different “game/cultural universe” could be something his studio considers in future content updates. Of course, always assuming the right opportunity.

Crossover planned with Deep Rock Galactic?

In recent days, both Arrowhead and the “Deep Rock Galactic” makers from Ghost Ship Games have sparked speculation about a potential crossover. Initially, the “Deep Rock Galactic” creators indicated that they approached Arrowhead with the idea of a possible crossover.

After the studio initially received no response to its request, a mysterious tweet fueled speculation. This appeared on the official “Helldivers 2” X channel and could indicate a collaboration between Arrowhead and Ghost Ship Games.

The tweet in question initially raised eyebrows with its binary code. However, the community didn't take long to decipher the code. The result was the question: “Where is Karl?” A possible clue was provided by the fact that the binary code was interspersed by the X-channel of “Deep Rock Galactic”.

Players of “Deep Rock Galactic” should know that Karl is the name of the dwarf from whom all playable dwarves in the co-op title descend. A hint at the upcoming announcement of a crossover between “Helldivers 2” and “Deep Rock Galactic”?

Let's wait and see.
