For $70,000 you can get mobile PlayStation history

PlayStation fans can grab a special truck trailer that was towed through the USA in 2006 and carried the latest games and associated hardware on board. However, there isn't much left of it.

With PlayStation Portal A new Sony handheld has been on the market since 2023. The hardware is significantly different from the once popular PSP, which was widely advertised in 2006 and adorned a special truck trailer. It was used in the marketing campaign at the time. The PlayStation 2 was also in focus at the time.

The PlayStation trailer is available for $70,000

The hardware generation that was common in 2006 has long been outdated. The PlayStation Portable was replaced by the less successful and now discontinued PS Vita. And many of the games from that time have received several successors. This applies not least to “Call of Duty 3”.

However, the truck trailer is still there. And it could soon be in a PlayStation fan's garden. Because it is being sold with $70,000 on the price tag.

The sale takes place on the Facebook Marketplace. However, the accompanying images suggest that the trailer's best years are long behind it. You can see the faded lettering of “ATV Offroad Fury 4”, “SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 2” and “NBA 07” inside, but also a pretty dilapidated base that would require a lot of restoration time.

The current owner emphasizes that the truck was “out of service for several years” and was brought out of storage with countless problems, including rotted tires. It therefore remains to be seen whether anyone is willing to pay the amount mentioned.

Buyers should also not expect the equipment from 2006. Games and consoles are not included in the sale. However, there are still screens hanging on the wall and controllers can also be seen.

In any case, the PlayStation truck and the associated trailer were not in use for long IGN reports: It was quickly scrapped because Sony sent the PlayStation 3 version on tour instead. The console was released in late 2006 after significant delays. In Europe, the last-last-gen hardware only appeared in 2007.

Further looks into the past:

The truck tour lit a fire

Ultimately, the PlayStation truck provides memories. This is what a user writes Reddit: “I vividly remember walking into a Target store with my dad in Arizona when I was about 10 years old, and this was at the door.”

Back then he was allowed to play a “Loco Roco” demo, which sparked a fire in the ten-year-old that has not gone out to this day. With the later purchase of a PSP, a childhood dream came true. “I still play the game sometimes and still have my Gen 1 PSP,” he said.

Also in Germany there were similar tours. Could I remind you of that?
