Final update delivers final stretch goals after 9 years

“Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night” will soon receive the final update. The game started as a Kickstarter campaign by “Castlevania” creator Koji Igarashi.

Nine years after the launch of the Kickstarter campaign for “Bloodstained,” the upcoming update will bring the last missing stretch goal to the game.

In 2015, “Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night” launched on Kickstarter. The campaign was a huge success and quickly became the highest-funded video game on the platform to date. The original funding goal for “Bloodstained” was $500,000. After achieving this goal, the developers added numerous stretch goals to further incentivize buyers to finance. Ultimately, the project raised $5,545,991 by completion, unlocking nearly two dozen additional goals.

In 2019, “Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night” was released for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch. Releases for Amazon Luna, Android, iOS and Google Stadia followed in 2020 and 2021. While most of the stretch goals were implemented over the years after release, there were always some adjustments. A planned port for the PlayStation Vita was completely canceled. The developers consistently provided the game with updates and will also provide another one in 2022 Roadmap with planned changes.

The goal of $3.25 million for asynchronous multiplayer has not yet been fully realized. It has been suggested that this feature could include a system similar to Dark Souls, where players can leave messages or see the ghosts of other players. Now this goal is implemented through more extensive co-op and versus multiplayer options in “Bloodstained”.

The final update for Bloodstained

Update 1.5, which will be released on May 16th for the Nintendo Switch and May 9th for all other platforms, is said to be the final update for “Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night”. It introduces Chaos Mode, in which players navigate randomly generated rooms and fight against waves of enemies either alone or in co-op mode. There is then also a versus mode in which players face off against a succession of monsters, collecting souls and using them to improve their abilities and weaken a rival player.

After its release in 2019, “Bloodstained” received positive reviews and was hailed as a worthy successor to the Koji Igarashi-produced “Castlevania” series. With the final Kickstarter goals met, the developers can now focus on developing a full sequel. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is part of PS Plus Extra. In the PSN Shop It is available for purchase for 39.99 euros.
