Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Update 1.020 optimizes the graphics and the frame rate

The next update for the role-playing game “Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth” is now available for download. With patch 1.020, the developers at Square Enix are delivering, among other things, the promised improvements for the performance mode.

After it became apparent at the time of release that the performance mode of “Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth” would be included minor technical problems is struggling, Square Enix announced an update that is intended to remedy these shortcomings.

The patch in question is there from now on available and upgrades the role-playing game to version 1.020. As can be seen from the official changelog, the promised optimizations to the performance mode have been made. Among other things, “sharp” and “soft” options for display in performance mode are offered here.

Furthermore, the developers talk about optimized graphics and a more stable frame rate in the changelog. Various bug fixes round off Update 1.020.

  • Correction of typos in some texts.
  • Fixed an error that occurred on the map under certain conditions when controlling a character.
  • Fixed an issue where Red XIII's Lunatic High and Warrior's Inspiration abilities could be easily canceled during combat.
  • Fixed a bug that caused enemies to remain stationary during combat under certain conditions.
  • Fixed a progression error that occurred during quests under certain conditions.
  • Improved frame rate and overall game stability.
  • Added Sharp and Soft options to Performance Mode output settings.
  • Improved graphics quality.
  • The camera's reverse setting is now reflected when “gliding” when controlling a Chocobo in the sky.
  • The reverse camera setting is now applied to the shooting mini-game camera.
  • Improved guidance support when climbing the ivy in Mithril Mining Town.
  • Addition of difficulty settings to the customization screens for the Condor Fort and Gambit Gears mini-games.


“Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth” was released for the PS5 at the end of February. The story follows seamlessly from the events of the first act, in which Cloud and his friends managed to escape from Midgar. In “Rebirth,” the group is confronted with the villain Sephiroth’s cunning plans and embarks on a journey across the planet.

According to the developers, the campaign's playing time is around 40 hours. If you want to see everything and master all optional tasks, you can plan up to 100 hours of play or more for “Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth”.
