Fans aren't the only ones who challenge themselves while playing video games. A developer of Final Fantasy 7 first of the name is rather keen on challenges, and is used to playing in his own way. This is also what he did for his first game of FF7, which he played without using a mechanic which nevertheless seems essential…

A rare gem at Square Enix

Whether you are a fan of the saga Final Fantasy or not, if you are fond of video games, you have necessarily heard of Tetsuya Nomura. Most players know him as the father of Kingdom Hearts, whether it is its story or its characters. But Nomura is also at the origin of numerous games Square Enixstarting with the design of the monsters Final Fantasy V and certain characters from Final Fantasy VI. It's even him, in collaboration with Yoshitaka Amanowho created the characters of Final Fantasy VIIand it is by working with Hironobu Sakaguchi that he imagined the story.

He continued on this path by taking care of the design of the characters of Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X And X-2as well as Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels, to finally produce the original concept and character designs of Final Fantasy XV. In addition to all this, he continued to manage most of the projects related to Final Fantasy 7including Crisis Core And Director of Cerberusand more recently Final Fantasy VII Remake as director and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as creative director. Tetsuya Nomura clearly has a lot of imagination, and it's not just limited to creating video games, but also to the way he plays them…

Tetsuya Nomura is not a player like the others

According to an interview conducted by Denfaminicogamer.jp, Tetsuya Nomura likes to explore video games in his own way. For example, when he played Final Fantasy XI (also called Final Fantasy XI Online) for whom he created the designs of Elvaans and Humes, he tended to ignore given quests to follow his own exploration missions to find places unexplored by most players. But his desire to deviate from the norm does not stop there, since he imposed a huge constraint on himself during his very first game of Final Fantasy 7…Indeed, the genius behind the extended universe of FF7 made the original game… without using materials.

In other words, he didn't have access to any magic during his first playthrough, which must have made using certain characters extremely difficult. We are thinking in particular of Aerith, whose powerful magic is a major drawcard throughout the first disc. Visibly, Tetsuya Nomura still won his bet, since he claims to have reached the last boss of the game under the amazed gaze of his colleagues. He tried to repeat the experiment with Final Fantasy 8 ignoring the G-Forceswhich grant access to abilities, magic, and the invocation of the G-Force partner, but he had to abandon the idea partway through because the challenge was too difficult to take on. He still managed to hold on for half the game, and such a feat deserves respect!
