Fallout 4 update impacts mods and saves

The majority of Fallout 4 mods rely on the “Fallout 4 Script Extender”, a mod developed by ianpatt and made available to all players and developers. As expected, F4SE has stopped working since the April 25 update rolled out.

So, on PC, many players have reported since yesterday that it is no longer possible to launch Fallout 4 using F4SE. Fortunately, ianpatt is already on the scene and a message has been posted on the GitHub of mod.

Fallout 4 update 2024-04-25 (1.10.980 onwards) broke F4SE and the rest of the native code modding scene in a similar way to Skyrim's “Anniversary Edition” patch. [ianpatt] is working on an update and currently cannot give a time frame for when it will be available, nor say if there will be any critical technical issues that would block an update. Do not email asking questions.

While one might believe that only PC players have been affected by this mod problem, some report no longer being able to use those available on Xbox and PlayStation, even going so far as to impact old backups.

I spent 24 hours on this save and this 'next-gen update' broke it while I was about to complete the last mission of the Far Harbor DLC. Yep… my save broke on Far Harbor Island. I don't know what to do, I just want to continue the game.

Many problems identified

While one of the main new features of this update is the native support for the game on Xbox Series point. Indeed, Quality mode simply does not work on Xbox Series X|S. Whether you enable Performance Mode or not, you're bound to be stuck on it.

Also, the update was to provide support for ultrawide screens, but the rendering is just bad. It remains to be seen whether all players are affected. As you can see in the screenshot below, the image is stretched.

Still on the PC side, Bethesda promised to optimize the game for Steam Deck so that it would be “Steam Deck verified”. It is now, but the launch window is no longer displayed, not allowing you to modify the graphics settings. As a result, players experience crashes or poor performance.

Finally, players who want to enjoy Fallout 4 from the PlayStation Plus Extra subscription simply cannot download the next-gen update. Bethesda, however, has clarified that it is aware and will soon correct the situation.

Besides that, the game suffers from all sorts of bugs, some of which are below.
