Fallout 4: Disappointed reactions – Is the next-gen update on the PC a failure?

Done! The long-awaited next-gen update for Fallout 4 has finally arrived! The fans are bound to be in a good mood… right? Unfortunately, things look different on the PC at the moment, because In the Steam forum, some players are rather disappointed with the patch. Some now complain about constant crashes, sometimes they can't even play for a minute before Fallout 4 crashes and you end up on the desktop. (Tip: We may have the right solution for the crash problem below!)

But the other improvements also appear to be limited. Especially the promised one Ultrawide support makes heads shake: Apparently Bethesda didn't adapt the HUD specifically for widescreen resolution, which is why the displays are stretched out ugly. Lots of mods have done a much better job of this. Users have posted the first screenshots in the forum, and we have linked two examples here:

The update is Fallout 4 (buy now / €6.25 ) now also official verified for the Steam Deck. However, there are already initial complaints here: A user reportsthat Fallout 4 has been running a little slower on the Steam Deck since the patch than before the update. We cannot yet say whether this is true. We'll be testing Fallout 4 ourselves on the Steam Deck shortly and getting an idea of the situation. And of course we will also take a closer look at the console versions!

Fallout 4 (PC) keeps crashing: How do you fix the Crash to Desktop Bug?

Fallout 4 has always had more graphical features to offer on the PC than on the consoles. One of them is the “Weapon Debris” option, which you can find in the launcher in the advanced graphics options. If Fallout 4 keeps crashing for you, you should try Completely disable Weapon Debris! To this day, this effect reliably leads to crashes on many computers – a bug that Bethesda unfortunately never fixed.
