A successful return to basics

Last year; Ubisoft had the brilliant idea of offering fans Assassin's Creed Mirage, a new opus from the studio's most prolific licenses which then served as a sort of return to basics. With gameplay more focused on action-infiltration, unlike the last major parts, and partially leaving aside the RPG dimension borrowed by the license, AC Mirage was designed to satisfy early fans while also managing to satisfy newcomers who wanted to try out the Assassin's Creed experience with a more modest adventure than usual. A bias that pays off for the studio while Mirage did very well after its release.

If this new adventure of the brotherhood has attracted so much, it is therefore for its gameplay and its reduced ambitions. Because yes, unlike the other games in the license, Ubisoft wanted to design a complete adventure here, without additional content. A desire expressed once again by the creative director of Mirage, Stéphane Boudon, during a recent FAQ organized on Reddit. But it was also on this occasion that the game team was able to reveal more about its plans for Basim, the protagonist of this adventure, previously introduced with the opus Valhalla.

The new face of the Assassin's Creed saga

Asked about the future of Mirage and the license during this FAQ, Stéphane Boudon once again stated that “Mirage was designed as a standalone experience and no DLC was planned“. That being said, it seems that Ubisoft Bordeaux is not finished with its protagonist, Basim. If the opportunity arises, it is possible that the master assassin will return to the forefront while the studio has some ideas “to extend Basim's story“.

Telling Basim's coming-of-age story has been pure joy for us so yes, we still have a lot to tell about Basim. At the same time, creating a game with so many constraints is a difficult exercise and our team would like to explore new horizons and have more creative freedom.

Nothing is certain, but fans can still expect to discover a new chapter in the story of Basim, who plays a key role in the history of the license since Valhalla. But beyond its protagonist, it is also with Assassin's Creed games of the same form as Mirage that Ubisoft Bordeaux could return. Asked about a potential opus adopting a form similar to that of Mirage, Stéphane Boudon replied: “We act in the shadows to serve the light“, the famous motto of the brotherhood of assassins, which leaves little room for doubt here. To be continued!
