However, even with this success, Nintendo announced some very exciting news this morning on social networks: the successor to the Switch will be for this fiscal year. A period which ends not on December 31, 2024 but on March 31, 2025.
The “Switch 2”?
We don't yet have an official name for this new machine. Simply called the “successor to the Switch” by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, the man himself posted a message on X, via the company's official Japanese account.

This is Furukawa, president of Nintendo. We will make an announcement regarding the successor to the Nintendo Switch during this fiscal year. It's been over nine years since we announced the Nintendo Switch in March 2015. We will hold a Nintendo Direct next June regarding the Nintendo Switch software range for the second half of 2024, but please note that there will be no mention of the successor to the Nintendo Switch during this presentation.
In the comments, a user complains about the “nonchalance” with which Furukawa releases this (big) news. In any case, we now know officially that the “Nintendo Switch number 2” will arrive no later than March 2025. Note that the next Nintendo Direct, scheduled for June, will not talk about this new machine and will focus exclusively on games coming to Switch for the second half of 2024.
