Shadow of the ErdTree arrives on PC, Xbox Series, Xbox One, PS4 and PS5 on June 21. This is the Elden Ring DLC, eagerly awaited by fans of the original game, which should include new reasons to immerse yourself body and soul in the universe created by FromSoftware. If it is still shrouded in many mysteries, we already know that it will have fewer endings than the original game.

Fewer endings in Shadow of the ErdTree

The days pass and must be very long for Elden Ring fans. Indeed, it is on June 21 that Shadow of the Erdtree, the first and only DLC of GOTY 2022, is released. Since the release of the trailer by Bandai Namco at the end of last February, players have happily immersed themselves in incredible theories regarding the history of this additional content. But it shouldn't be as rich as the original game.

A few months before the release of Shadow of the ErdTree, the game's director Hidetaka Miyazaki is taking part in interviews. If he spoke for example to JV and IGN before the broadcast of the first trailer, it was to a Chinese media that he recently spoke. To Chinese media zhuanlan-zhihuhe explains :

The DLC is an independent existence, so the player's choice in this article will not affect the story of the DLC. As for the ending, there is no “end” or “ending”. Of course, the DLC won't have as many endings as the main game, but players will still have to make “choices” throughout the game.

As a reminder, Elden Ring is made up of six different endings but only three are distinct. It is for these reasons that only three trophies are linked to the end of the game and not six (the “normal end, the age of the stars, that of the exalted flame).

Ideas that didn't fit into Elden Ring

If this turns out to be a shame, there is no reason to worry since this does not necessarily portend an insignificant DLC. During our interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki, the latter explained the need to make Shadow of the ErdTree. He felt that he still had ideas to exploit for the Elden Ring universe, but that they did not fit with the basic framework of the game.

In terms of volume, these were simply elements that didn't fit physically and culturally with the main game and the world we were building. Having DLC provides a more natural framework for these new elements, whether it's weapons, characters… It wasn't as difficult as you think. It was just a natural evolution of the design and having this new space to work.

More Dark Fantasy oriented, Shadow of the ErdTree promises substantial content. A darker atmosphere that can make some players' mouths water… especially if they have to make choices during their adventure.
