Dune 2 remains a topic of conversation even weeks after its theatrical release. And not just for normal people like us, who marvel at the building blocks and then write about how gripping they found the almost three-hour spectacle – like our editorial sand expert Vali, the Dune 2 too quite okay found.

Steven Spielberg himself is also a Dune fan. In a new edition of the podcast The Director's Cut the legendary director and the Dune director Denis Villeneuve meet. And Spielberg’s statements have it all – in the most positive sense.

Spielberg likes sandworms

According to Steven Spielberg, Dune 2 is about this one of the most brilliant sci-fi films I've ever seen. He uses this rhetoric two more times, so he seems to have really enjoyed this film.

He was also impressed by the sandworms, or as he puts it:

The sandworms looked like sea snakes. And the scene in which… [die Fremen auf den] Sandworm surfing is one of the best things I've ever seen. Ever.

Last but not least, Steven Spielberg also gives his personal verdict on the cast and the fight scenes and you can probably already guess:

The cast is absolutely outstanding […] [In Dune 2] features some of the best fight scenes.

Dune 2 continues to be successful

Such praise will definitely go down like oil on a sandworm. Meanwhile, Dune 2 is finally approaching profitability, if the film hasn't already reached it: the estimated budget of 200 million US dollars is now a whopping one Box office grossed $579 million opposite.

We remember the old and not 100 percent accurate rule of thumb: A film has to make around two and a half times its budget in order to be able to give the film studio a black zero.

Dune 2 has presumably reached this hurdle and now at the latest the chances of a third part and thus the conclusion of the story about Paul Atreides have increased enormously.

Dune 3 is still not officially confirmed. Maybe Steven Spielberg should call Warner Bros., he has a clear opinion.

We will still look into the future of Arrakis together with you. Despite the official announcement, there are already some exciting statements and further information about Dune 3. You can find out all about it in the articles linked above.

Do you join in the praise of Steven Spielberg? Or did you not like Dune 2 at all? Something in between? You know what: just write it to us in the comments section!
