Find a ripe quince

The side mission “Shortsighted Ambitions” starts automatically when you buy something from Isaac in the shop in Bakbattahl. You watch a scene between Isaac and his wife and learn that the merchant is slowly losing his eyesight. He tells you about a grimoire he is currently reading – “The Transmigration of Souls”. In order for him to continue reading the magic book, he needs one ripe quince to improve his vision.

A quince has probably already ended up in your inventory. It is a yellow fruit that is found everywhere around Bakbattahl on bushes can be found. Very rarely it is dropped by goblins. We recommend that you keep an eye out for the bushes, as you will probably find a quince more quickly this way.

In order for the quince to ripen, you must keep it in your inventory instead of in the storage box, because there is no time and the food does not rot. For example, you can sit on a bench or spend the night in your house to pass some time. Then check whether the quince is ripeif so, deliver it to Isaac.

Conversation with mother and daughter

The merchant will thank you for the ripe quince, and the next step of “Short-Sighted Ambitions” requires you to come back the next day. So sleep until the next morning Or pass the time differently and go back to the shop.

Isaac tells you about the grimoire “The Transmigration of Souls 2” that you should get for him. Then leave the area in front of Isaac's stand. At this point you should speak to the dealer's wife and daughter. If that doesn't happen, return to the stand and provoke the event. This tells you that the grimoire is dangerous and that it would be better if you don't help Isaac to continue reading it.

Get “The Transmigration of Souls 2”.

To complete the quest “Short-Sighted Ambitions,” you need to find “The Transmigration of Souls 2.” What matters is whether you hand the book to Isaac or not. Go to Quiet City checkpoint, where Ibrahim runs his curiosity shop. You probably know this one from the quest “Jadeite Sphere Hunters”.

Talk to Ibrahim and buy the grimoire from him for 2,000G. Next you choose the Conversation option “Order a fake” and have the magic book forged for 2,400 G. After two days, return to the Curiosity Shop and speak to Ibrahim. Select the “Accept Fake” conversation option. The following grimoires are now in your inventory:

The original “The Transmigration of Souls II”The fake “The Transit of Souls II”

You may have noticed that Ibrahim also warned against reading the two original volumes. However, now you have the book and you have to make the decision whether to give it to Isaac.

Consequences of the decisions in “Myopic Ambitions”

Before you decide, you should consider yours Save save status. Upload it to the cloud or create a backup copy on your PC that you can rename or store in another location. But you can also make it easier for yourself and stay overnight in an inn. When loading the save game, instead of choosing the last saved game, you have to start from the last inn. Then go to Isaac and decide.

The good ending

Give Isaac the forgery, “The Transit of Souls II”. He won't notice and will be happy about it. This decision brings with it the following consequences and rewards:

You follow Isaac and witness how nothing happens. The life of Isaac and his family continues its usual and humble course. As a reward you will receive 3,000 XP and 16,000 G. The bad end

Give Isaac the original, “The Transmigration of Souls II”. This decision brings with it the following consequences and rewards:

You follow Isaac and witness his family crumble into dust – literally. Isaac doesn't believe that the pile of sand is supposed to be his daughter and wife. He goes looking for them.As a reward you will receive 3,000 XP.Isaac's shop no longer has an owner and Hugo can take over this one. As long as you manage to free him from the dungeon in the mission “Away from the wrong path” and keep him alive.
