Emotions are currently boiling in the Escape from Tarkov community. After developer Battlestate announced a new edition of the tactical shooter, Pay2Win allegations are piling up online. We explain what it's about.

What happened?

Yesterday the Tarkov developers presented on her YouTube channel the new Unheard Edition. This includes a single player mode for the first time in the shooter's history. However, it comes with an expensive catch.

Because the Unheard Edition of Tarkov costs a hefty $250 (around 235 euros). The PvE mode is exclusive to buyers of this edition and cannot be played by other players – even though developer Battlestate had previously made it available to buyers of the most expensive version to date Edge of Darkness Edition had promised free access to all future DLCs. This alone cost an impressive 150 euros.

But the price is not the only bone of contention. In addition to the single player mode itself, the Unheard package offers the opportunity to take the progress you have made there into the multiplayer and keep it. On top of that, there are also larger pockets and a higher starting level.

“We're finally escaping Tarkov” – First gameplay from Arena Breakout: Infinite causes euphoria

Many fans sense an unfair advantage here. In Tarkov, a reset of the game servers every few weeks ensures that all players always start at the same level. namely at zero.

It is precisely this reset that could be avoided for buyers of the Unheard Edition. Heavily armed and well equipped, they could now go onto the multiplayer servers and destroy all other players with ease. Where would the fun be in that?

The community's dissatisfaction is correspondingly great. The reactions under the Announcement trailer on YouTube are overwhelmingly negative, on Reddit fans speak of one disgusting mountain of Pay2Win and accuse Battlestate of being a rip-off.

Fitting that Unheard depending on the translation both unheard as well as unheard of can mean.

Battlestate's reactions have so far failed to calm the situation. A community manager explained that the Unheard Edition content is not DLC, but a fundamentally new game mode for Tarkov. And this just has to be bought.

In view of this, many Tarkov fans are now threatening to migrate to other extraction shooters. How about, for example, Hunt: Showdown from the Frankfurt studio Crytek?
