Digital Gaming Culture Foundation: Uzunoğlu quits

After more than six years, Çiğdem Uzunoğlu is giving up management of the industry association's own Digital Gaming Culture Foundation.

The view of “new professional challenges” prompts Çiğdem Uzunoğlu, the Digital Gaming Culture Foundation to leave on May 31, 2024. The managing director says goodbye with an impressive balance sheet: During her term of office, the team grew from four to 17 employees and the third-party funding acquired quadrupled. It is not yet known who will succeed her.

The Digital Gaming Culture Foundation designs and coordinates a wide range of conferences and projects, including the initiative Remembering with games as well as youth programs such as “Games Entrepreneurs” and “Games set a precedent”. The awards office for the German Computer Game Prize is also located at the Berlin Foundation: The award will be presented on Thursday of this week in Munich.

Çiğdem Uzunoğlu: “I am very happy to have made a contribution to the social recognition of digital games in recent years, especially with a view to the culture of remembrance and democracy education. I would like to thank the Game as a shareholder of the foundation and the advisory board of the foundation for the trust they have placed in us and the good cooperation.”

Advisory board chairman Olaf Zimmermann (also managing director of the German Cultural Council) thanks the outgoing managing director for the “many years of excellent collaboration”: “Ms Uzunoğlu has had a decisive influence on the work of the Digital Gaming Culture Foundation over the last six years. Particularly noteworthy is her commitment to using games in the culture of remembrance as well as in the education of democracy and values. Your work is characterized by commitment, openness and reliability.”

Game managing director Felix Falk: “On behalf of the association, I would like to thank Çiğdem Uzunoğlu for the many years of cooperation. Together with her team, she has significantly advanced the Digital Gaming Culture Foundation over the last six years. The projects and partnerships initiated have contributed to increasing the social status of games and further spreading the potential of the medium into society.”
