Certain Canal+ Subscribers to Get Free Access to Max and HBO Series

Canal+ has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discorvery, the parent company of the American channel HBO. Thanks to this agreement, the encrypted channel will be able to add the BO catalog and the streaming platform to its offers. For certain plans, access will not entail any additional cost.

There is two good news for Canal+ customers. The encrypted channel will not only broadcast series from the HBO group, but it will also do so at no additional cost for some of the subscribers. In a statement released on May 7, Canal+ formalized the signing of a distribution agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of HBO.

This announcement comes as Warner Bros. Discovery plans to release Max in France on June 11, 2024. This American streaming platform is now the official home of HBO's catalog, bringing together very popular TV series: House of the Dragon, Game Of Thrones, Euphoria, Westworld or Successionto name just a handful.

As part of the partnership established between Warner and Canal, it is planned to include the Max Standard offer (i.e. the intermediate level of the three formulas offered on the American SVOD site) free of charge in several packages of the French encrypted channel. And this, from June 11, the official launch day of Max in France.

The following offers are affected, regardless of whether you are an old or new subscriber:

  • Cinema-Series
  • Friends & Family
  • Integral
  • Rat+ Ciné-Séries

For other Canal packages, a paid option will be offered to add the HBO catalog for an amount to be determined.

Canal+, the streaming hub in France

For Canal+, the signing of this deal with Warner Bros. Discovery is restoring a situation that was derailed at the start of 2023. At the time of the acquisition of OCS by the encrypted channel, HBO content subject to a distribution deal with Orange (the owner of OCS) had not been included . They went to Prime Video, via Warner Pass.

For those who also enjoy television, Canal+ will offer, again from June 11, ten thematic channels from Warner: Discovery Channel, Warner TV, Warner TV Next, CNN, Boomerang, Cartoonito, Cartoon Network, TLC, ID and TCM Cinema. This concerns subscribers of the four offers mentioned above.

In fact, Canal+ maintains its strategy of aggregating all its rivals via offers that cover a large number of competing catalogs. Depending on the type of package you choose, you can bring together Netflix, Disney+, AppleTV+, Paramount+, OCS, Max, numerous TV channels and also, incidentally, all of Canal+. But you have to pay the price.
