In some places the topic comes up that creative director Todd Howard is supposedly envious on the Fallout game from Obsidian, as it is much more popular with some fans than the Bethesda developments. For this reason, he would always try to push Fallout: New Vegas to the side. This Theory contradicts Howard himself and explains once and for all what the Fallout timeline looks like.

Fallout: New Vegas is just as canon as the Amazon series

Before we get into what Todd Howard said in the interview with IGN has revealed, here is one Spoiler warning: If you still plan to watch the Fallout series, you should close your eyes now at the latest. Because the following sections are about one of the bigger revelations of the film adaptation.

What we know so far: The Fallout series is primarily set in the year 2296 and therefore after all previous video games. It looks in detail timeline according to Todd Howard as follows:

  • October 23, 2077: The atomic bombs fall – in Fallout 4 and the TV series can also experience this moment.
  • October 23, 2102: The year of Fallout 76in which the residents of Vault 76 are released exactly 25 years after the atomic bombs fell.
  • 2161: 84 years after the nuclear strike, the story of the first fallout begins in Southern California, including near the town of Shady Sands.
  • 2197: The action of. takes place during this time Fallout Tacticswhich revolves almost exclusively around the Brotherhood of Steel and finding Vault 0.
  • 2241: The direct successor to fallout Although it takes place several decades later, it is still connected to the events of its predecessor. At the center of Fallout 2 represents the rise of the New California Republic and the Enclave.
  • 2277: The story of. begins exactly 200 years after the apocalyptic event Fallout 3, in which you start off as a resident of Vault 101 in search of your father. Little by little, however, the enclave in particular is becoming more of a focus.
  • 2281: Just four years later, you slip into the role of a courier in Fallout New Vegas and end up in the end times version of Las Vegas. There is a conflict between the New California Republic and Caesar's Legion.
  • 2287: As the sole survivor of Vault 111, you set off in search of your kidnapped baby at the beginning of Fallout 4, but stumble across a new technology called Synth near Boston that could be the future of humanity.
  • 2296: The year of the Fallout Amazon series, in which Vault 33 resident Lucy MacLean wants to find her father, but can find out much more about the background of Vault-Tec.

This timeline forms the Canon of the Fallout series and confirms once and for all that Fallout New Vegas is definitely canon to the lore. This also applies to the series, and yet they shouldn't contradict each other.

The fate of Shady Sands explained

The focus of the controversial discussions is a board that can be seen in the sixth episode of the Fallout series. To be seen there? A timeline that… The rise and fall of Shady Sands explained and ends in the year 2277: A large arrow points to a huge explosion and more than just suggests that the capital of the New California Republic has been wiped out – four years before the events of Fallout New Vegas, in which Shandy Sands actually still exists.

Fans see this as an obvious break, which Todd Howard explains to IGN. Although the plaque ends at 2277, that does not mean that Shady Sands was bombed that year. Instead the attack took place sometime after 2281, but definitely before 2296. This does not contradict the story of Fallout New Vegas.

Incidentally, the idea to destroy Shandy Sands did not come from Todd Howard himself, but from showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. These would have Bethesda's long-time creative director a little at first shockedbut in the end they came to an agreement regarding this “pretty pivotal story moment.”

“There might be a little ambiguity in some places. But everything that happened in the previous games, including New Vegas, happened too. We're very cautious about that,” Todd Howard concludes. What kind of people are they? Future of Fallout means? That remains to be seen, because at least it will Fallout 5 will have to wait a few more yearsand a second season of the series has not yet been confirmed.
