Although it was released more than eleven years ago now, Internet users have rediscovered this cult title from the 2010s. A decade later, however, it has no sequel and its future seems to be divided between two paths.

When the first Bioshock was released in 2007, the title from Irrational Games and 2K Games was the subject of a small bomb. Between the atmosphere of the underwater city of Rapture, the powers available to the player and its “light immersive sim” approach, the latter had managed to conquer the hearts of the public and critics. If the second opus went more unnoticed because of its too close proximity to the original game, the third further exploded the popularity of the franchise.

This title, it's Bioshock Infinite which was released in 2013 and while everyone is won over, critics and players alike, it is clear that a decade later, the game has been a little forgotten and does not appear as a reference like other titles of its time. To correct this injustice, players shared their experiences on Reddit, to pay tribute to one of the most memorable games of the 2010s.

One of the cult games of the 2010s

On the video game subreddit r/Gaming, user cyborgcolossus posted a screenshot of Bioshock Infinite to show that even eleven years old, the title still remains as beautiful. It must be said that more than on its graphics, it is above all on its very particular artistic direction that the Irrational Games teams have bet everything. With its aesthetic of the American dream of the end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century, the 2K Games title benefits from a visual atmosphere of its own that does not age.

Beyond its rendering, it is obviously through its story that Infinite has left its mark on so many people, notably thanks to the character of Elizabeth who accompanies us throughout the adventure. But hey, it must be recognized that the confusing side of the scenario which had nevertheless been the subject of much praise at the time is more open to criticism here, especially because of certain twists and turns which don't make much sense. Today, we have reason to be more critical, but in 2013, everyone was won over by this story between travel in time and dimensions which were not as much the norm as nowadays. Ultimately, we could have seen Bioshock Infinite take the GOTY title in 2013… if that hadn't been the year The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto V were released.

What future for Bioshock?

While it was nevertheless a promising saga, it is surprising to see that Bioshock has not been entitled to more games during the last decade. Recently, 2K's X account (formerly Twitter) seemed to indicate that the development of a Bioshock 4 would indeed be in the pipelinebut nothing official has been announced yet.

On the other hand, what we do know is that Ken Levine, the “dad” of the franchise, left Irrational Games and 2K to found his own studio, Ghost Story Games, and develop a title called Judas. And clearly, given the first trailers, it is obvious that this is a kind of Bioshock, but in space. The latter seems much closer to release than Bioshock 4, since Judas should arrive no later than March 2025.
