Atari 400 Mini: Retro hardware released

There is now another piece of retro hardware on the market that brings classic games into the present. The Atari 400 Mini or The400 Mini is here.

The retro console costs around 120 euros and takes players back to a time when 8-bit systems were the state of the art. Ultimately, games that were available for various systems at the time were compatible with the Atari 400 Mini.

USB ports, save states and more

Other features of the retro hardware include five USB ports to which a keyboard, additional joysticks, gamepads and other devices can be connected. The scope of delivery also includes an Atari joystick with 8 buttons.

The400 Mini is also equipped with a rewind function, which allows players to reset the gameplay by up to 40 seconds if necessary.

  • HDMI: High definition output at 720p 50 or 60Hz.
  • Save states: Save your progress in one of the four save slots per game.
  • Frame: There are twelve variants. They can be used to frame the games.
  • Controllers: Compatible with many USB game controllers.

With the new retro hardware, Plaion promises an experience with the “look and feel of 1979”, in which particular emphasis is placed on the “authentic colors of the original device as well as the true-to-original structures of the plastic housing and the membrane keyboard”.

The Atari 400 was initially released in the United States in November 1979 and cost approximately $550, which would equate to about $2,400 today. Two years later, the Atari 400 was also available in Germany for around 1,500 DM.

Production ended in August 1983. In total, around two million copies of the Atari 400 and 800 were sold.
