Like well-connected industry insider Tom Henderson reported, we take control of the witch Elsa in “Assassin's Creed: Witch”. Henderson also spoke of the “darkest Assassin's Creed to date”. In a recent report, Henderson and Insider Gaming went further.

On the one hand, Insider Gaming, citing sources familiar with the matter, states that “Assassin's Creed: Hexe” is still in an early stage of development. Those responsible at Ubisoft are currently aiming for a release in 2026. The dark offshoot will appear as part of “Assassin’s Creed: Infinity”.

Reach your goal with magical powers?

According to an older Bloomberg report, the setting of “Assassin's Creed: Witch” is the 16th century Holy Roman Empire. As Insider Gaming added regarding the setting, we can expect an open world that offers space to explore, but will no longer be as large as in the last main titles.

As mentioned at the beginning, the protagonist is the witch Elsa, who, according to Insider Gaming, has supernatural powers. Citing gameplay footage available to the magazine, a scene is reported in which Elsa is hunted by 16th-century German soldiers.

To escape her captors, Elsa uses a magic spell to take control of a cat. Elsa uses the four-legged friend to distract the soldier by knocking over a glass bottle, which shatters on the ground and attracts the soldier's attention.

Insider speaks of a fear system

Insider Gaming also reports that the magazine's sources spoke of a fear system. This could be based on the system found in the “Jack the Ripper” DLC from “Assassin's Creed: Syndicate”. Even if concrete details are still pending, a system of this kind would certainly make sense.

Here the magazine points to the historical fact that in ancient Europe between 1500 and 1660 more than 80,000 women accused of witchcraft were executed. A fear that the protagonist Elsa is also likely to be confronted with on a regular basis. However, it remains to be seen in what form the fear system will ultimately find its way into “Assassin's Creed: Hexe”.

Especially since Ubisoft usually doesn't comment on possible details that are circulated by leakers and insiders.
