As “Sea of Thieves” heads towards the PS5, a new (sea) milestone has been overcome, which Rare is celebrating on the pirate game's official website.
After “Sea of Thieves” was available on the PS5 last weekend, only as beta for now, the launch of the full version is approaching on the Sony console. However, the pirate game is not a new work and has been inviting pirate trips on the PC and Xbox consoles since 2018.

Over the past six years, the title has attracted numerous players, which were numbered shortly before the PS5 launch. The number mentioned can certainly be impressive.
A whole series of new pirates will follow
40 million players – usually more player profiles – on PC and Xbox are an “incredible milestone” worth celebrating, according to Rare. At the same time, producer Joe Neate would like to thank the team who have worked so hard to deliver numerous free updates since the launch of “Sea of Thieves”.
It continues with season 12. New additions such as throwing knives and the bone caller will change the sandbox gameplay again, says Neate.
“The positivity and excitement that emerged from our closed beta was infectious. And I can’t wait for even more new faces to join us starting next week,” it continues.

At the same time, “Sea of Thieves” could pave the way for more Xbox games on the PS5:
While the beta players on the PS5 are apparently not included in the player count of 40 million, the figure is in no way the same as the sales of “Sea of Thieves”. It was one of the first first-party games to land on Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost and could also be played for free thanks to the 14-day Game Pass trial.
Popular with PS5 players even before launch
But even if it is unclear how exactly the number is made up or distributed across the PC and consoles, it is an impressive success that will continue to grow in the coming weeks, as the charts from the PlayStation Store clarify:
“Sea of Thieves” will be released on April 30, 2024 for the PS5. Premium Edition buyers get five days early access. Our PS5 Beta Survey is still open.
