Some people will certainly remember that “Granblue Fantasy: Relink” is not the only role-playing game that Cygames has worked on in the past. Instead, the studio announced the ongoing development of “Project Awakening” back in August 2016.

A first trailer, which caused quite a stir at the time, followed in 2018. Afterwards, apart from the statement that “Project Awakening” could be released for the PS5, things became quite quiet about the fantasy role-playing game. Just this week Cygames gave us a new sign of life.

Work continues on Project Awakening

As the studio pointed out, we don't have to worry about Project Awakening. Despite the lack of information in recent years, the role-playing game has not been discontinued and is still in development. It goes on to say that the waiting community will be provided with updates in the next few weeks.

“We work hard behind the scenes to give you the best experience possible. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months. Thank you for your continued support,” Cygames said in a recent tweet. Statements that could indicate a possible presentation this year.

Developers want to impress with fresh ideas

It is still unclear what “Project Awakening” offers us in terms of gameplay. In an interview published in 2019, the creators of Cygames pointed out that they like the way you can further develop your characters go new ways and wanted to stay away from classic level-ups and the associated increases in status values.

At the end of 2021, it was said that the team attached great importance to efficient development and relied equally on hand-designed content and procedural content generation when designing the game world. To what extent these statements and concepts pursued are still relevant is unclear.

There is also the question of which platforms “Project Awakening” is now intended for. We may find out more in the next few months.
