Will it be an influencer fair? These guidelines apply

This year too, YouTubers and others can get accredited for Gamescom. But what advantages and conditions are there?

The Gamescom 2024 opens its doors next August and invites players, trade visitors and press representatives to come and explore the latest games on site. There is a special “ticket” for so-called content creators, i.e. streamers, YouTubers, TikTokers and generally people who prefer to play video games on social media platforms.

A Creator accreditation offers several benefits, including free access all days with extended hours, free parking, access to a Creator co-working space with workstations, snacks and drinks, and “other amenities.”

Creator Accreditation Guidelines: Follower counts are crucial

Since the term “content creator” can be defined broadly and would even cover players who publish videos rather irregularly, the organizers of Gamescom have put together guidelines that entitle them to creator accreditation.

An important point is the pure follower and viewer numbers, which cause occasional streamers to be excluded from accreditation. YouTubers, for example, have to have 300,000 subscribers, which is quite a hurdle.

The following numbers must be proven for at least one channel:

  • Twitch: Average of 300 concurrent viewers over the last 3 months
  • Instagram: At least 75,000 followers
  • TikTok: At least 250,000 followers
  • YouTube: At least 300,000 subscribers
  • Facebook: At least 250,000 followers
  • Podcasts: At least 5,000 listeners per episode

Gaming is the main topic, but there are alternatives

Depending on the topic, the platform and certain hype, followers can sometimes be generated quickly. However, the mere number does not automatically entitle you to the above-mentioned advantages at the trade fair. Because the theme of the channels also has to be right.

Accordingly, the content should “primarily revolve around gaming or one of the topics included in the nomenclature such as cosplay, board and board games, trading card games, streaming (films, series) and anime”.

This would leave many big streamers and YouTubers out. However, the organizers of Gamescom leave a back door open: This way, creators can prove that they are “still part of the gaming community”. This includes, for example:

  • The target group primarily consumes gaming content.
  • Creators primarily produce with other content creators from the gaming community.

If the conditions are still not met, a wide door opens: Streamers, YouTubers, etc. have the opportunity to explain in writing why they want to be accredited.

“Arguments could be, for example, that you are one of the leading creators in a certain niche, have already won awards, etc.,” says Gamescom’s guidelines.

If the accreditation is at the end, the conditions provide for an accompanying person. It also needs to be accredited. The organizers of Gamescom will provide details together on this page.

For all other players beyond trade visitors, press and content creators: You can buy a ticket for the day of your choice in the official Gamescom shop, but you will pay more than last year:

Meanwhile, the first industry giant has canceled its participation in the German trade fair. Nintendo is not on board. There is still a question mark behind many other publishers and industry representatives.
