Baldur's Gate should continue, even if Larian has no interest in a sequel. Rights holder Hasbro has announced this. We are in discussions with many possible partners about the future of the series.

In an interview with PC gamers Eugene Evans, senior vice president of digital strategy and licensing at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, spoke about the future of the brand.

“Hopefully not 25 years this time”

He didn't name any names; they were talking to studios, some of which would also approach Hasbro on their own. They are ready to take on the challenge of a new Baldur's Gate. And this time it shouldn't take as long as it did after Part 2:

So we hope it doesn't take another 25 years like it did between Baldur's Gate 2 and 3 before we have answers. But we will take our time and find the right partner, the right approach and the right product that can represent the future of Baldur's Gate.

Under no circumstances do you want to make the decision hastily. No wonder, after all, the next game will probably have to compete with the best role-playing game of all time, which has won numerous awards and founded its own online subculture.

Theoretically, it could also be the case that Baldur's Gate 4 won't be released next, but rather a spin-off. But that is pure speculation at this point. Likewise, little is known whether the well-known characters from the third part will continue.

Legally, Schattenherz, Karlach and Co. belong to Hasbro, so they could be in the next game. Astarion's voice actor Neil Newbon recently said he would be open to continuing to tell the vampire's story. Evans remained vaguely optimistic about this in the interview:

I'd like to think that all of these characters could potentially appear in future projects, for the fans' sake.

Since Larian has already clearly canceled: Who would be your favorite to bring the next Baldur's Gate to life? The return of Bioware? Obsidian Entertainment, who have proven with Pillars of Eternity that they can do ISO role-playing games? Owlcat Games (most recently Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous)? Or someone completely different? Feel free to write to us!
