Trophies, friends, profile… PlayStation is opening up even more to PC with a new overlay! | Xbox

While Microsoft and Xbox have almost become one for several years now, Sony is preparing to take a further step in opening its PlayStation ecosystem to PC.

PlayStation opens up a little more to PC

Alongside the launch of Ghost of Tsuhima: Director's Cut on PC next month, Sony has just announced that it will also launch a new overlay incorporating many elements of the brand.

Players will be able to find their PlayStation profile directly there, but also their friends and their trophies. Like the Xbox Game Bar available on Windows, you can easily find these elements by pressing SHIFT + F1, or directly via the game menu.

Note that this is not a launcher bringing together the brand's games, but simply a dedicated menu which will open overlaying your game.

In the article of PlayStation Blog announcing the arrival of this overlay, it is also specified that PlayStation and PC players will be able to play the mode together Legends thanks to cross-play support and communicate via game chat.

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut will be available on May 16 and below you will find the recommended PC configurations to make the most of the title.

What's next for PlayStation?

After starting to port its games to PC, then offering the possibility of linking its PlayStation account to its Steam profile, and finally releasing a game simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC, namely Helldivers 2, it is obvious that PlayStation is not going to stop there to conquer the PC market.

Now that a large part of Sony's catalog has been ported to PC, in particular thanks to the acquisition of Nixxes Software, we can imagine that PlayStation will offer a competitor to Microsoft's PC Game Pass in the months or years to come.

Indeed, PlayStation Plus has undergone major changes and has significantly moved upmarket compared to what was offered before. Sony could thus attack PC gamers with a dedicated subscription, but for this, the launch of a dedicated launcher would be necessary.

It will be interesting to follow PlayStation's proposal in the years to come. The arrival of a dedicated overlay with Ghost of Tsuhima: Director's Cut is certainly a small step towards a much bigger plan.
