Towerborne: the Xbox exclusive wants you to be able to create a character that looks like you | Xbox

Finally announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 after long months of rumors, Towerborne continues to be revealed today with an emphasis on champion customization. Jason Findley, lead 3D character artist, Jeff Murchie, lead concept artist, and Pedro Toledo, art director at Stoic, spoke about “Mirror's Wagon.”

Towerborne promises extensive character customization

Before diving into the heart of the matter, a slight reminder about Towerbone is in order. It is a game published by Xbox Game Studios Publishing and developed by Stoic Studio. The title is described as an action-RPG type game, but the tone will have nothing to do with the trilogy previously developed by Stoic, namely The Banner Saga. Here, the adventure is intended to be much more family-friendly and light, with high replayability.

The particularity of the game is that the Aces, the heroes of Towerborne, remember their deaths. That is to say, when the player fails, he does not start the game again as if nothing had happened. The developers explain that death becomes part of their story, a legacy of roguelike games.

Today, the studio reveals that players will be able to customize their Aces by crossing the “Mirror's Wagon” whenever they want, giving them a wide range of possibilities to “express their own identity” or simply “experiment”.

By going there, an Ace will be able to change his haircut, trim his beard, increase the size of his eyes, change his skin color, express his gender, change his voice and many other things.

Stoic wants to grant great freedom to players

The studio thus wanted to ensure that players had as much freedom as possible, “while remaining faithful to the vision of art and character design for the game”. Stoic emphasizes that unlimited customization does not exist, but the development teams wanted to “provide easy-to-use options for a player” so that they can express their freedoms in multiple ways.

To the delight of champions, the “Mirror’s Wagon” will evolve over the seasons, just like the equipment and weapons. In addition to incorporating its own ideas, the studio will make additions based on players' wishes.

Without counting options based on color, texture or transformations on the eyes, there would be 572,832,000 million combinations.

Towerborne will be available later this year, without further details, exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and directly in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. If you're eager to play it, know that an Insider program launched last month.
