While one might have thought it impossible, determined players have managed to get Grand Theft Auto V to work on a Nintendo Switch. Even though the game was originally released in 2013, we feel that Nintendo's hybrid console had a hard time getting everything to work correctly…

While all the attention of players is now focused on Grand Theft Auto VI, Grand Theft Auto V nevertheless continues to make the news through information that is, to say the least… unusual. Today, it is not through official information that Rockstar's title is getting people talking, but thanks to an impressive initiative from players for a result that is as funny as it is not surprising.
GTA 5 on Switch, what does it look like?
On the social network X (formerly Twitter), modding group Superstar South posted a short two-minute clip showing Grand Theft Auto V running on a Nintendo Switch. Since March, Internet users have been working on this project, with the aim of offering an unofficial port of GTA V on Nintendo's hybrid console, but also on Android and Linux.
Unfortunately to do so, this group of amateurs seems to have used the source code of the game which circulated on the internet following the hacks suffered by Rockstar in recent years. The source code has been online since December 2023, but of course this is all illegal. This did not prevent Superstar South from working on this unofficial port of GTA 5 on Nintendo Switch for a rendering… which will surprise no one.
Obviously you want to at least see how far we got…

Unsurprisingly, a checkered result
As you can see in the snippet above, Grand Theft Auto V suffers from numerous slowdowns and fairly low visual quality on Nintendo Switch. Clearly, the rendering is less good than on Xbox 360 and PS3, while Nintendo's hybrid console was released four years after GTA 5. But obviously, the Switch is not known for its technical power, and this video proves it a once again.
Afterwards, this is a first draft of an unofficial version, it is obvious that the result is less good than what could be sold commercially. However, note that this is what the game could look like in nomadic mode and not in docked version. In any case, it is much more of a curiosity that makes you smile and which allows you to answer the question “what would GTA V look like on Switch?” rather than something concrete.
