Marvel has found its rare pearl

Broadcast since March 20, 2024 on Disney+the animated series X-Men '97 has already managed to capture the hearts of fans after just four episodes. The reasons for this enthusiasm are rather obvious, since it is not only a direct sequel to the series X-Men of the 90s which is an integral part of the memory of fans born before and during this period, but also because the casting brings together the unforgettable voices of actors like Cal Dodd, Lenore ZannAnd Alison Sealy Smith who respectively interpreted Wolverine, BeastAnd Storm in the original series. A real Proust madeleine for fans of X-Men !

X-Men '97 begins a year after the disturbing events that marked the end of X-Men, and the team, now recognized by the government, must face new obstacles. Among them, we notably note the “Friends of Humanity”, an anti-mutant political party with somewhat dubious methods. In addition to this, astonishing revelations about the last wishes of the Professor sows discord within the X-Menall in a colorful and 100% 90s atmosphere. Marvel here is its nugget in terms of animation, and it seems that the producers have no intention of letting it slip away…

The future is already written for X-Men '97

While the first season of X-Men '97 hasn't even reached its fifth episode yet, it's not a second season that has been confirmed, but a third ! In an interview with Comicbook.com which you can find below, Brad Winderbaumthe head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studiosclaimed that the third season of the animated series was already in production, and even let slip some details about the future of X-Men '97and in particular on the narrative arcs to come.

Winderbaum explains that the majority of the series is based on the comics of Chris Claremont published between the 70s and 90s in the series Uncanny X-Men. Based on this information, we can perhaps expect more in-depth stories around Morph, Cableand perhaps even X-Force. But an arc that has marked more than one comic book fan is undoubtedly that of the sacrifice of Jean Gray and the birth of Phoenixalready explored in the film X-Men: Dark Phoenix of 2019 but which deserves a new iteration in the universe of X-Men '97.
