This film is now shaking up the cinemas!

Fall of the Hollywood giants. The 2024 cinema year isn't even four months old yet. Nevertheless, some real blockbusters have already made it to the big screen. Both the science fiction epic Dune 2 and the brutal monster action Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire not only set records, but also let the cash registers ring properly. But even these high-flyers currently have to admit defeat to a surprise hitwhich is causing quite a stir.

What is Civil War about?

As the name of the film suggests, Civil War is all about a civil war in the USA. However, the focus is not on the historical event from the 19th century, but rather on a devastating conflict in a fictional future.

The allied armies from the states of Texas and California as well as the rest of the US military face each other. In the midst of this chaos, war correspondent Lee Smith (played by Kirsten Dunst), to document what happened. It was directed by Alex Garland, who also did it made films like Annihilation. How successful is Civil War in cinemas?

On its opening weekend, Civil War was able to play alone in the USA grossed just over $25 million. But that's not all, because the action film presented at the same time numerous records on.

With the $25.7 million, Civil War the most successful cinema release to date of a film of Studio A24. Even the Oscar winner Everything Everywhere All at Once couldn't post such good numbers on its opening weekend.
